Here We Go!

We were originally planning to feature “Holidays in the Sun” this time… but today’s post comes with a quick update!

In our previous article (see here), we examined whether the label text on the original UK pressing of God Save The Queen (VS181) was printed in silver or white.

At the time, we concluded it was white.
However, after receiving some very insightful messages from a follower on Instagram who works in the printing industry (with expertise in silkscreen printing), we’ve come to reconsider our findings.

Their expert opinion, along with close visual inspections under magnification, suggests that the labels are more likely printed in silver, not white — due to the sheen, ink layering methods, and the way silver pigment can appear differently depending on the print batch or ink saturation.

We’re now diving deeper into this topic, comparing label variations on different paper stocks (white, navy, etc.), and evaluating colour consistency across pressings like A6/B5 versus A1/B1. One interesting point raised: the more greyish or flatter look on later pressings may still be silver, just with less pigment.

Stay tuned — this is one of those wonderfully nerdy collector rabbit holes, and we’ll continue to share updates as the research progresses!
