Here We Go!
Time for another addition to the Sex Pistols collection!
This time, we’re looking at one of the most infamous bootlegs out there with numerous variations:
Indecent Exposure
📍 Live at the 76 Club, Burton (Upon Trent), 24th September 1976
What I have is a “Frankenstein pressing”:
- UK sleeve: X SEXB-005
- US vinyl: SP-6148
- *West German inner sleeve
Please note: the UK first pressing originally came with a piercing poster, which is missing from my copy.
🧷 What’s a Frankenstein Pressing?
A collector’s term referring to a record assembled from mismatched parts — sleeve, disc, and inserts taken from different editions. The name comes from Frankenstein’s monster: a patchwork of pieces.
These often result from dealer swaps, resale mix-ups, or previous owner combinations.

🧷 Collector’s Notes
✔️ Thoughts on This Frankenstein Combo
My copy carries Rotten Records / X SEXB-005 markings, but the structure is a simple, non-reinforced single-fold.
The red ink is clean, lacking the grainy texture typical of original UK risograph prints — suggesting this might be a later reprint or a bootleg of the bootleg 😅
That said, the printed spine and overall design are quite close to the original.
The vinyl itself is almost certainly US-made. Although Belgium pressings exist under the same number, the label confirms this is a US version.
This mix likely didn’t happen naturally — someone along the line (seller or owner) must’ve swapped parts.
✔️ Market Value Snapshot
Based on Discogs and Popsike:
- Complete UK (with poster): £80–£120
- US Pressing: $40–$50
- UK with poster: up to $120+
A Frankenstein set like this tends to sell for 20–35% less, especially without the poster.
If you were to sell, parting out the sleeve and vinyl separately might yield better returns — both are in demand!
(Not that I plan to sell mine, though 😅)
✔️ Where I Found It
I picked this up around 30 years ago at a Tokyo record fair where local shops gathered under one roof.
This was pre-internet, so I relied heavily on magazines to ID rare finds — and when I saw this one, I was like:
“Wait, that price for this record!?” 😆
In hindsight, the low price was probably because it’s a bootleg of a bootleg.
Still — sounds great, looks cool, and remains a personal favourite 👍✨
🔜 Next Up
I’ll be diving into more official and unofficial releases from the 76 Club session.
Don’t miss it!
