Here We Go!
Introducing another item from my Sex Pistols collection.
This time, I’m looking at Rot-N-Roll (023),
a live recording from the first day of the U.S. tour, recorded in Atlanta.
This Atlanta show has been released in various forms over the years, both officially and unofficially.
Two different sources are known to exist: an audience recording and a separate alternative source.
In this article, I’m focusing on the audience-recorded vinyl edition.

🧷 Collector’s Notes
This album appears to be a re-boot of “First U.S. Show! (Atlanta Jan ’78)”.
Like Rot-N-Roll, other audience-recorded reissues of this show exist under different titles, such as “Shock USA!”.
Alternative sources from the same concert can be found on releases like “My Name Is John” and “Kill The Hippies”.
These use a different source and offer better sound quality, but notably do not include “Anarchy”.
On the officially released “Live In U.S.A. 1978”, the previously missing “Anarchy” has been restored.
Do you prefer the raw, close-to-the-crowd feel of an audience recording,
or the cleaner sound of a soundboard-style source?
Hearing the same show presented in such different ways is quite unusual.
I plan to introduce each of these related releases in future articles.
The Atlanta show was later officially released as part of Live In U.S.A. 1978 (3CD) , which compiles recordings from the band’s first U.S. tour.
🔜 Coming Up Next
Next time, I’ll be looking at a France-only single related to The Great Rock ’n’ Roll Swindle:
“ANARCHIE POUR L’U.K.”
Thanks for reading.
Bye for now 👋
