🧷 My First NMTB Didn’t Quite Land
At school I was a metal kid. Thrash, all the way.
Then I heard Megadeth’s cover of “Anarchy in the U.K.”
▼ It’s on Megadeth’s third album.
I loved it, and I wanted to hear the original. So I went out and bought a Sex Pistols CD.
I put it on and… hang on.
Lighter than I’d expected. Slower, too.
I’d pictured something far more savage. It just didn’t land.
The CD was the US pressing of Never Mind The Bollocks.
That may well have been part of it.
▼ The US edition has different colours and a slightly different running order.
🧷 God Save The Queen Changed Everything
Then, by chance, I caught the “God Save The Queen” video on TV.
Johnny Rotten had me. Completely.
It started with the look.
I chopped my own hair off and bleached it with peroxide.
Youthful folly, let’s call it.
Then I went back to that CD. This time, the songs got through.
The album that hadn’t landed the first time quietly became my number one.
