The disc uses Castle Select’s magenta base with graffiti-style lettering.
Matrix reads: “SELCD620 SANCTUARY RECORDS 28650 www.vdcgroup.com”. Made in England is stated.
💡 LC 6448 is Castle Select/Sanctuary’s European distribution label code, administered by Germany’s GVL/Phononet.

The front features a live shot of John and Sid, with the Silver Jubilee crown logo.
The back is a simple tracklist layout with barcode, LC number, and catalogue number.
Standard jewel case throughout — nothing unusual here.
✔️ Booklet/Insert
The gatefold carries liner notes by Michael Heatley. They state the demos were cut with Dave Goodman in July 1976, with the four live tracks coming from a Burton on Trent gig two months later.
Behind the tray it’s the same scrapyard-and-tyres imagery as the rest of the artwork. Not that it’s relevant to anything — just rather fitting for the aesthetic.
All tracks are credited ℗1985 (Warner Chappell Music Ltd.). Quite why a 2002 CD carries an 1985 date on the credits isn’t clear. At a guess — and it is only a guess — it points to an earlier Goodman-era master being used. Can’t say for certain.

✔️ What’s actually on here?
Tracks 1–8 are Dave Goodman’s studio demos. Tracks 9–12 are live cuts from the 76 Club in Burton on Trent.
The moment I saw “Seventeen” listed as “I’m A Lazy Sod,” I had a hunch — and sure enough, that’s the 76 Club recording. Turns out the liner notes confirm it outright.
Billed as a 25th anniversary release, but underneath it’s the same familiar combination that’s been doing the rounds for years.
✔️ Official distribution, but…
To be fair, this did come out through proper channels — Castle Select, under Sanctuary. That said, what’s actually on the disc is the Goodman demos from the Spunk lineage and the 76 Club live tracks from the Indecent Exposure lineage — a pairing any collector will recognise instantly.
Beyond the UK, it also turned up on Russian and Ukrainian pressings (CD and cassette) and a Brazilian edition, though none of these ever made it to vinyl.
It never charted in the UK, and critical attention was virtually nonexistent — this sits firmly in “niche collector’s archive item” territory.
Secondhand copies currently go for somewhere between $2.76 and $14.16. Not the most flattering price range for something wearing a 25th anniversary badge.
✔️ A Word on Castle Select
Castle Select was Sanctuary Records’ budget reissue arm in the UK. The parent company, Castle Communications, was acquired by Sanctuary in 2000 — so when Silver Jubilee came out in 2002, the Castle name was still very much alive.
That changed in 2007, when Sanctuary itself was absorbed into Universal Music Group and the Castle label was dissolved. Then in 2013, as part of the antitrust restructuring tied to Universal’s EMI acquisition, Sanctuary was sold on to BMG, who hold the rights to this day.
Worth noting: the 2013 sale documentation named the rights to Spunk specifically among the assets changing hands — a reminder of just how much Pistols material passed through Sanctuary’s hands over the years.
Universal being the current home of the Pistols’ catalogue makes that whole chain of ownership rather striking, in hindsight.
