🧷 Pressing & Variant Details
✔️ Disc Details
▼The CD label has an extremely simple design.

✔️ Cover & Booklet
▼ A rather rough-and-ready collage on the front cover.
I can make out someone who looks like former US President Ronald Reagan, but who’s the woman in the middle…?

▼ The back of the booklet features the tracklist.
There are comments beneath the track titles, but I’ll take a closer look at those later…

▼ The back inlay uses the reverse colour scheme of the booklet’s back cover.

▼ Inside the booklet.
Credits on the left and what appears to be liner notes by Dave Goodman on the right.

🧷 Collector’s Notes
✔️ About the Recordings
Track 1:
A Malcolm McLaren interview. It’s an excerpt from an interview that’s already appeared in The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle (TGRRS) and can also be found on YouTube.
Tracks 2, 6, 10 and 12:
These are Dave Goodman demo versions.
For some reason, they sound a bit rawer to my ears than the versions on bootlegs such as Spunk or the official 76–77 release.
Is it just me, or could it be down to a different mix?
Track 3:
The cover describes this as “Late ’77 – Ultrarare!”, but it’s actually the re-recorded version rather than the original.
rack 4:
“No Lip” comes from the Sex Pistols’ performance at the 76 Club in Burton upon Trent, England, on 24 September 1976.
The cover describes it as “Live From North of England ’76”, but in reality…
It’s that familiar old bootleg recording from the 76 Club again.
Track 5:
“No Fun” comes from the Dallas show on the US tour, complete with a radio advert for the concert before the song.
The cover says “Live From Dallas – Last Show Ever”, but the final show was actually at Winterland.
So at least they got the Dallas part right!
Track 7:
“Revolution In The Classroom” is described as an “Ultrarare mystery track!”, but as many collectors will know, it’s actually by The Ex-Pistols, not the Sex Pistols.
Interestingly, this is also the only track credited to “Pistols Publishing”.
Track 8:
A version of “God Save The Queen” from a Swedish live performance, played back at a ridiculously fast pitch!
Track 9:
Audio from the infamous Bill Grundy interview on the television programme Today.
Track 11:
“Anarchy In The UK” is described as “1st ever TV appearance – live on ‘Young Nation’ ’76”, but wasn’t their first television appearance actually on So It Goes…?
There’s no doubt, though, that the recording on this CD comes from Young Nation.
✔️ Liner Notes by Dave Goodman
The booklet includes liner notes by Dave Goodman.
It’s unclear whether they were written specifically for this CD or reproduced from somewhere else, but it’s quite unusual to find something like this.
Ah! The “Sex Pistols”. There’s so much I could tell you about them. I was lucky to have worked with them from their 3rd ever gig (Feb 76) up to their American Tour. It was as a sound man and producer. I’ve seen them perform more than anyone else. To say those early gigs and studio sessions were electric is an understatement. Unfortunately, very few good quality recordings exist of these early performances, but here you have a great cross section of tapes of what I consider to be a band that became a major milestone in musical history, comparable only to The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Beethoven. Crank it up, absorb the energy and question your role in the human machine.
Dave Goodman
It’s not often you come across liner notes like these on an imported CD, is it?
🧷 Coming Up Next
Next time, I’ll be taking a look at The Legendary Nashville Tapes, a bootleg CD I recently picked up!
Stay tuned!
