Here We Go!
Introducing another item from my Sex Pistols collection!
This time, I’m taking a look at…
Anarchy In The U.K. (VJCP-12003)!
Released in 1992, this was a single issued ahead of the compilation album Kiss This.
I’ll mainly be looking at the Japanese VJCP-12003 release, along with some of the differences between it and the European VSCDX 1431 edition.ーロッパ盤 VSCDX 1431との違いも見ていきます。

✔️ Obi
The Japanese release originally came with an obi, but back then I never really thought about keeping them, so I threw mine away.

🧷 Collector’s Notes
✔️ Differences from the European VSCDX 1431 release
VSCDX 1431 was released in Europe on 28 September 1992.
It came in a Digipak with a fold-out poster featuring the same artwork as the sleeve.
※ The reverse side features a collage.
The poster is attached to the case along a perforated edge, allowing it to be detached.

The track listing is the same as the Japanese release.

▼ The sleeve artwork is the same, but the layout is different when opened out.

✔️ Surprisingly rare? The 1992 7-inch
A 7-inch edition was also released in 1992, alongside the CD.
Oddly enough, though, I don’t come across this 7-inch very often. It may actually be harder to find than the original EMI pressing.
By this point CD was becoming the dominant format, so despite being a later reissue, the 7-inch is surprisingly difficult to find.
▼ I’ve covered the EMI Anarchy release in this article:
✔️ A single released ahead of Kiss This
This single was released ahead of the 1992 compilation Kiss This.
The Japanese edition doesn’t mention it, but the European release carries the announcement:
AVAILABLE SOON “KISS THIS”

✔️ The first Anarchy In The U.K. CD single released in Japan
VJCP-12003 was the first CD single of Anarchy In The U.K. to be released in Japan.
The song had already appeared on Japanese LPs and CDs, but this was the first time it was issued there as a standalone CD single.
It also has an unusual reverse-opening case, with the obi fitted on the right-hand side rather than the left.
It has not been reissued as a Japanese CD single since.
Curiously, it also includes the Dave Goodman-produced demo version…
🧷 Coming Up Next
Next time, I’m planning to take a look at four earlier Virgin reissues of Anarchy In The U.K. from 1983 and 1988 — the 7-inch, 12-inch, CD single and 8cm CD.
Stay tuned!

For collectors interested in Japanese editions
If you are drawn to the design and information found on Japanese releases, particularly obi strips, you may want to take a look at my Never Mind The Bollocks Japanese CD OBI Gallery.
This page organises each obi strip variation issued for the album individually, presenting the obi itself as the main focus in a collector-oriented reference format.
It is intended as an entry point for those interested in Japanese obi strips.
